WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will grant Louisiana Clinical and Translational Science (LA CaTS) Center $20 million to address health disparities and improve health outcomes in underserved communities in Louisiana. Specifically, this funding will go towards expanding chronic disease research at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center.
“As a doctor who worked in Louisiana’s charity hospital system, addressing health disparities in underserved communities is a top priority,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This funding will help LA CaTS expand their research and close the health gap in Louisiana.”
The Louisiana Clinical and Translational Science (LA CaTS) Center combines 11 major Louisiana academic, research and health care delivery institutions into a unified research infrastructure, collectively “addressing health disparities and improving health outcomes in our underserved population with chronic diseases”.
