Cassidy Announces $32.5 Million for New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette Airports

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today announced that the Baton Rouge and Lafayette airports are receiving more than $25.5 million in combined federal funding to improve their facilities. Cassidy supported the cities’ requests for funding, and the grants were rewarded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

“Airports keep commerce flowing. It is important that Louisiana’s airports are in the best shape possible to further support the economy and provide for better passenger experiences,” said Dr. Cassidy. 

The Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans is receiving $7 million to extend a taxiway to 2,765 feet to allow a higher service volume of aircraft and reduce the delay of existing traffic. This grants funds the construction phase of the project.

The Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport is receiving $15 million to improve safety the runway to meet FAA safety standards and to enhance the safety of operations at the airport. This funds the construction phase of the project.

The Lafayette Regional Airport is receiving more than $10.5 million to extend its taxiway to 4,000 feet to better meet its operational needs.
