Cassidy Issues Statement on Supreme Court Taking Up Louisiana Abortion Clinic Law

WASHINGTON– U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) released the following statement responding to news that the Supreme Court of the United States will hear Louisiana’s law that requires abortion clinics to have hospital admitting privileges.

The law in question requires that doctors who perform abortions have hospital admitting privileges and higher standards of care at their clinics so that women using the facilities can have access to emergency medical care. Its implementation had been stayed during the appeals process.

“It is a surgical principle that a doctor be able to manage post-operative complications. This protects the patient when she can be most vulnerable. Having privileges at a facility to manage the complications is essential to this. Women deserve that this standard be maintained,” said Dr. Cassidy.
