WASHINGTON— U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), released a statement following the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers allocation of $1.388 billion for Louisiana flood mitigation, including $343 million to fully fund the construction of the Comite River Diversion.
“After decades, this is the day we have been waiting and fighting for. Securing the funding for the Comite River Diversion and other flood prevention projects is a major win for Louisiana families,” said Dr. Cassidy, “I will continue to work with local and state officials to make sure that all of our flood protection needs are met.”
Additionally, this announcement includes funding for the following projects:
- Comite River Diversion, LA – $343M
- East Baton Rouge Flood Control – $255M
- Grand Isle, LA – $15M
- West Shore Lake Pontchartrain, LA – $760M
- Amite River and Tributaries (east of the MS River): $3M Upper Barataria Basin FRM Study, $3M South Central Coastal, LA, $3M LPV GRR for levee lifts, $3M WBV GRR for levee lifts
