WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), released the following statement today after the U.S. Senate passed the Agriculture and Nutrition Act (H.R. 2)—also known as the Farm Bill—which included a Kennedy-Cassidy amendment to extend the National Flood Insurance Program through January 2019 and a Cassidy-supported provision critical to Louisiana sugar producers.
“This bill protects Louisiana homeowners by preventing the National Flood Insurance Program from expiring next month, and supports Louisiana’s farmers and sugar producers,” said Dr. Cassidy. “I’m glad we were able to include these provisions in this bill.”
In Louisiana, the sugar industry supports more than 16,000 jobs and $3.52 billion in economic activity.
