WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) released the following statement on the Obama administration’s updated draft proposal to scrap plans to allow offshore drilling in the Atlantic:
“Energy production in the Gulf of Mexico has worked alongside our military, tourism, shipping and fishing industries for decades. The Obama Administration should be using the Gulf as a blueprint to open the Atlantic to energy production and the hundreds of thousands of good jobs that come with it. About 87 percent of U.S. offshore areas are already off limits to exploration and production—we’ve seen what happens to our economy when other countries take the lead on production. This decision is a win for foreign workers and a sucker punch to American workers.” |
