Cassidy Applauds Sabine Pass LNG Expansion

WASHINGTON— U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. released the following statement after FERC announced it granted approval of Cheniere Energy’s proposal to expand its Sabine Pass LNG terminal in Louisiana:

“Expanding the Sabine Pass LNG terminal will create direct and indirect jobs in Louisiana and across the country. Its processing capacity will increase by 50 percent. However, there are still billions of dollars of investments in LNG projects waiting for the president’s approval. Let’s move forward policies that encourage energy investment, not discourage production.”

Dr. Cassidy is a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

In the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Cassidy was an original co-sponsor of the Domestic Prosperity and Global Freedom Act, H.R. 6, which would expedite exports of US liquefied natural gas (LNG). The Cassidy Amendment was also added to the U.S. House of Representatives FY2015 budget proposal to prevent the Department of Energy from considering the perceived impact of greenhouse gas emissions on the public in the LNG export application review process.
