Cassidy Statement on Keystone Markup

WASHINGTON – Today, Dr. Bill Cassidy participated in his first U.S. Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee meeting to markup an original bill to approve the Keystone XL pipeline.

The Cassidy Keystone bill to authorize building the pipeline passed the House of Representatives on November 18, 2014.

Senator Cassidy offered the following statement:

“The President’s Keystone XL Pipeline veto threat means he does not care about the 40,000 jobs that will be created by the pipeline. Louisiana families and businesses along the Gulf Coast will directly benefit from the crude oil delivered by the pipeline. Workers will be safer because it’s more efficient to transport oil by pipeline rather than train or truck. The President’s own State Department said it would have a negligible impact on the environment. The case for approving the Keystone XL pipeline is clear and obvious. The majority of Americans want this built. Let’s get it built.”
