Cassidy Announces Warnock as 2024 National Seersucker Day Co-Chair

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA) as his new National Seersucker Day Co-Chair. The 11th annual National Seersucker Day will be celebrated on June 13, 2024.

“Seersucker Day is a great Senate tradition that brings members of both parties together to celebrate a bit of Louisiana,” said Dr. Cassidy. “Senator Feinstein will be missed this year, but I look forward to carrying on this good-spirited tradition with Senator Warnock.”

“More than just a fashion statement, National Seersucker Day is a wonderful, bipartisan tradition with Southern roots that helps unite Americans through our shared love of chic and comfortable summer clothing,” said Senator Warnock. “I’m honored to co-chair this effort with Senator Cassidy to celebrate seersucker’s special cultural and sartorial contributions to our country.”

The late Senator Dianne Feinstein co-hosted National Seersucker Day alongside Cassidy for 10 years. She passed on September 29, 2023.

Seersucker suits were popularized by a New Orleans businessman in the early 1900s. Former U.S. Senator Trent Lott (R-MS) brought Seersucker Thursday to Congress in 1996. After the tradition went unobserved in 2012 and 2013, Dr. Cassidy revived National Seersucker Day in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2014 and continued the tradition in the Senate with the help of Senator Feinstein through 2023.

Cassidy invites Americans from all over our great nation to don their warm weather finest on this National Seersucker Day. All senators and their staff are invited for an official photograph at the Ohio Clock on Thursday, June 13, at 12:20 p.m. ET.

Cassidy and Warnock will be introducing a resolution to establish June 13, 2024, as National Seersucker Day.
