Cassidy Announces $112 Million to Calcasieu Parish School Board for Hurricane Laura Relief

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will grant the Calcasieu Parish School Board $112,440,892.06 for Hurricane Laura relief. The grant is reimbursement for building repairs on 76 campuses in the school district made in the wake of Hurricane Laura.

“This is crucial help our communities in southwest Louisiana need to bounce back from Hurricane Laura,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This grant supports the remediation and emergency protective measure that ensure our children have a safe and clean place to learn.”

Background
These grants cover four projects involving remediation of damaged buildings.

  1. $36,012,699.40 to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for district wide remediation – east. This project is for 43 campuses or 3,748,233 square feet of buildings on the East side of the parish. The work consisted of planning, inspections, monitoring, drying, sanitizing, abatement, and cleanup to implement a safe and secure environment. This is funded at 100% Federal cost share.
  2. $27,413,599.63 to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for district wide remediation – east. This project is for 43 campuses or 3,748,233 square feet of buildings on the East side of the parish. The work consisted of planning, inspections, monitoring, drying, sanitizing, abatement, and cleanup to implement a safe and secure environment. This is funded at 90% Federal cost share.
  3. $25,265,338.75 to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for district wide remediation – west. This project is for 33 campuses or 3,062,668 square feet of buildings on the West side of the parish. The work consisted of planning, inspections, monitoring, drying, sanitizing, abatement, and cleanup to implement a safe and secure environment. This is funded at 90% Federal cost share.
  4. $23,749,254.82 to the Calcasieu Parish School Board for district wide remediation – west. This project is for 33 campuses or 3,062,668 square feet of buildings on the West side of the parish. The work consisted of planning, inspections, monitoring, drying, sanitizing, abatement, and cleanup to implement a safe and secure environment. This is funded at 100% Federal cost share.
