WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today announced the Treasury Department’s Office of Gulf Coast Restoration will grant an additional $3,076,986.80 to the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority for a project to restore Lake Calcasieu. This will bring the total amount of aid for the project to $28,679,742.68. The extra funding will help complete plans for large-scale marsh creation and nourishment, marsh drainage, and to maintain marsh salinity levels.
“Building and maintain marshes are a key to preserving Lake Calcasieu and the communities around it,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This grant is good news for the city of Lake Charles, Calcasieu and Cameron Parishes, and the lake itself.”
