WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced Louisiana Superfund sites, American Creosote Works, Inc. in Winnfield and Marion Pressure Treating in Marion, will receive funding to begin remediation work through the passage of Cassidy’s bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IJJA). Previously, these two sites had been stalled for over four years due to a lack of funding. All of Louisiana’s 13 Superfund sites will now be receiving financing for environmental remediation and reclamation.
According to the EPA, this $1 billion investment funds 49 Superfund sites that were previously backlogged and is the first wave of funding from the $3.5 billion allocation for Superfund sites included in the bipartisan infrastructure bill. There is also an additional $1.5 billion for Brownfield sites included in Cassidy’s infrastructure bill that has yet to be allocated.
“Federal investments in all of Louisiana’s Superfund site projects would not be possible without the passage of the bipartisan infrastructure bill,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This announcement is great news for Louisiana as we clean up sites and return them to the community for new development.”
