WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today applauded the announcement of a new American energy manufacturing plant will in Iberia Parish, Louisiana. The project by First Solar will come with a $1.1 billion investment from the company and support 700 new jobs with an annual payroll of at least $40 million. “Louisiana has been leading on energy development for decades. Our state’s leadership, coupled with the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, has positioned us to make projects like this possible,” said Dr. Cassidy. “Louisiana is building an economy for 2050 and this is one more step towards that goal.” The 3.5GW fully vertically integrated facility will be completed in 2026. Background First Solar is a company focused on supporting American energy independence and decoupling the country’s manufacturing energy supply chains from China. First Solar has never relied on China, and this new plant strengthens that commitment. First Solar’s decision to invest in Iberia Parish, Louisiana reinforces the state’s role as the nation’s energy leader and supports the “all of the above” approach to diversify Louisiana’s energy portfolio. ### |
