Cassidy Discusses Infrastructure with Parish Leaders, Tours Child Care Center in New Roads

BATON ROUGE – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) met today with public officials in Pointe Coupee Parish, and discussed with them how the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act stands to support Pointe Coupee Parish by rebuilding roads and bridges, boosting rural broadband access, reducing flood risk and more.

“No one in Louisiana or Pointe Coupee Parish should have to worry about access to high speed Internet in 2021,” said Dr. Cassidy. “They should also be able to get broadband without moving to Baton Rouge. I’m fighting for them in Washington, and I’m thankful to local leaders for fighting with us.”

Dr. Cassidy was joined by Major Thibaut, the President of Pointe Coupee Parish.

“I appreciate Senator Cassidy taking the time to visit Pointe Coupee Parish and speak with area leaders about how we can build up our infrastructure,” said President Thibaut. “Pointe Coupee Parish would benefit from projects that expand broadband, build roads, improve waterways and reduce flood risk. I am grateful for Senator Cassidy’s leadership in making this happen for Pointe Coupee Parish.”

Afterwards, the Senator toured Bucks and Bows Learning Center in New Roads, and discussed with local leaders the possibility of helping secure more Early Head Start seats.

“In the event we do not get the care and education of our children right, nothing else matters,” said Kellie Newchurch, Volunteer President of the Pointe Coupee Early Childhood Coalition. “Our community needs more Early Head Start seats so our child care centers can set our children up for success. We look forward to the time when EARLY HEAD START children come to our campus. We thank Senator Cassidy for coming to learn about the work we are doing here in Pointe Coupee.”
