Cassidy, Kennedy Applaud Judicial Nomination for Eastern District of Louisiana

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), and John Kennedy (R-LA) today applauded President Trump’s nomination of Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Greg Gerard Guidry to serve as a U.S. district judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana.

“Justice Guidry is exceptionally qualified for this position. He has served our state well for decades as both as a trial and appellate judge in addition to being a former federal prosecutor. With his experience, I am confident he will serve with distinction on the Eastern District of Louisiana Court.” said Dr. Cassidy. “I thank President Trump for selecting him and I look forward to introducing him to the Senate Judiciary Committee.”

“I congratulate Justice Guidry on his nomination to a federal judgeship in the Eastern District. Justice Guidry has distinguished himself as a Louisiana Supreme Court justice and a prosecutor during a lengthy legal career. I look forward to learning more about him as he goes through the nomination process,” said Senator Kennedy.

Guidry, a graduate of Louisiana State University undergraduate and law schools, has sat on the Louisiana Supreme Court as an associate justice since 2009. Previously, he served as a judge for the Louisiana State Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal and as a district judge on the twenty-fourth Judicial District Court in Jefferson Parish. Before becoming a judge, Guidry worked as Louisiana’s assistant attorney general and assistant U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana, the same court for which he is now nominated.
