WASHINGTON—U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), and John Kennedy (R-LA), released the following statements after the Senate unanimously confirmed Judge Robert Summerhays to be a U.S. district judge for the Western District of Louisiana by a voice vote.
“Judge Summerhays will be an excellent federal judge for the people of southwest Louisiana. He has the experience and expertise needed to excel in this position and help clear the backlog of cases in the Lafayette court that has gone without a judge for over a year,” said Dr. Cassidy. “He will serve our state and country with distinction.”
“I congratulate Judge Robert Summerhays on his appointment to be the next U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Louisiana,” said Sen. Kennedy, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. “Judge Summerhays’ background, education and judicial philosophies will make him an asset to the court and community in Acadiana.”
Cassidy introduced Summerhays at the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing on his nomination in April. He is the second judge confirmed for Louisiana’s Western District this year, following Terry Doughty’s unanimous confirmation by the Senate in March.
