WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) and John Kennedy (R-LA) today offered an amendment to the FY 2022 Omnibus Appropriations bill to include $2.5 billion for disaster aid, including $500 million to rebuild ports.
After the September passage of $600 million in Hurricane Laura and Delta relief for Southwest Louisiana and $5 billion for states impacted by Hurricane Ida, the Louisiana delegation continued to push the Biden administration and their congressional colleagues to deliver additional aid.
“Despite repeated meetings with leadership in congress, the administration and the president himself, additional disaster relief was left out of this omnibus budget bill. This is unacceptable to the thousands of Louisiana families still trying to recover. I will not stop trying to secure this relief,” said Dr. Cassidy. “Our amendment provides the long overdue disaster aid South Louisiana needs. I urge my colleagues to support this amendment.”
Yesterday, Cassidy announced he will not vote for the FY 2022 Omnibus Appropriations bill if it does not include disaster relief for Louisiana.
