Cassidy Praises U.S.-Mexico Asylum Agreement to Address Border Crisis

WASHINGTON— U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), appeared on Fox News today and praised Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen’s announcement that the United States and Mexico had reached an agreement that will help address the crisis at the border.

Dr. Cassidy’s remarks on Fox News are transcribed below.

CASSIDY: It is huge. In fact, it is bigger than getting money appropriated immediately because this takes effect immediately. And for those who don’t know, if someone comes across the border to seek asylum, they’re in. And then they end up melting into our population, never again being found. They don’t show up for their court date, they just live here illegally. On the other hand, under this deal, now they’ll be kept in Mexico, they’ll be processed in Mexico, and they’ll never be released into the interior of the United States. It is huge, it is a bigger deal for securing our border than would be an immediate appropriation of money.
