Cassidy, Senate Pass Resolution to Overturn Biden Vaccine Mandate on Private Businesses

WASHINGTONThe U.S. Senate passed a bipartisan resolution late Wednesday night to overturn President Biden’s vaccine mandate on private businesses. The resolution passed the Senate by a vote of 52-48 with all Senate Republicans and Democrat Senators Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Jon Tester (D-MT) voting in favor. The resolution now awaits a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) was a cosponsor of the resolution.

“President Biden’s vaccine mandate on private businesses is complete government overreach,” said Dr. Cassidy. “As a doctor, people should get vaccinated, but the federal government has no right to control peoples’ lives.”

Biden’s mandate would force businesses with 100 or more employees to require employees to get vaccinated or submit to weekly testing and wear a face-covering in the workplace if they are not vaccinated. The rule, which will affect more than 80 million Americans, imposes $14,000 fines on employers for each violation.
