WASHINGTON— U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. released the following statement regarding the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) response to a request for an investigation of companies that are allegedly abusing the H-1B Visa program by replacing American workers with foreign workers at a lower cost:
“DHS says it can’t investigate possible abuses into the H-1B visa program? It’s their job. Do it.”
Previously, Dr. Cassidy joined Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) and others to urge the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Labor to investigate abuses within the H-1B visa program. The H-1B visa program allows employers to employ high-skilled foreign workers, typically in the engineering and high-tech industries. There have been recent concerns that U.S. companies are using the H-1B visa program to cut costs by laying off American workers and replacing them with foreign workers.
