Cassidy Tours Ayers Career College and Diesel Driving Academy in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT – Yesterday in Shreveport, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) toured Ayers Career College and the Diesel Driving Academy to learn more about how they’re training workers to support themselves and their families.

At Ayers Career College, they train people to take jobs in the medical industry, including as medical assistants, pharmacy technicians or health care administration assistants. They also train workers in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration programs. Meanwhile, the Diesel Driving Academy trains commercial truck drivers in Shreveport, Baton Rouge, and Little Rock, Arkansas.

“Education is key to doing better in one’s life,” said Dr. Cassidy. “The students at these colleges are changing their lives, and doing better for us all.”

As Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, Cassidy continues to support institutions of higher education as they help people launch their careers. In June, Cassidy introduced the Lowering Education Costs and Debt Act, a package of bills which would simplify the student loan process, create downward pressure on the cost of college and provide students better information on the return on investment their school and field of study provides. Additionally in July, Cassidy introduced legislation to reauthorize the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education program.

Cassidy was led through both colleges by Mr. Barry Busada, Senior Vice President of the Diesel Driving Academy.

“We were excited to have the opportunity to host Senator Cassidy and show him the transformational impact our career education programs have on students,” said Mr. Busada. “In his role as Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, there is nobody in Washington who better understands the need to increase training for high-demand careers and provide students with a choice in their educational path that best suits their skills and life circumstances.”

Mr. Busada added, “Ayers Career College has been training and placing men and women in high-demand occupations for 70 years, and the Diesel Driving Academy has been doing the same in the trucking industry for 51 years. We have always appreciated the Senator’s leadership on quality education for America’s workforce and we look forward to continuing to work with him in the future.”
