Monroe – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today toured winter storm damage in Northeast Louisiana, visiting Donald Farms in West Monroe and Butch Farm Service in Farmerville. Donald Farms produces alligator meat and Butch Farm Service supplies the Foster Farms Poultry Plant in Farmerville.
“These farms feed America and support jobs in Northeast Louisiana,” said Dr. Cassidy. “I will work to support these farms and other small businesses in Louisiana as they recover from the winter storm of 2021.”
While in Northeast Louisiana, Cassidy met with West Monroe Mayor Staci Mitchell and other local officials, to discuss the region’s recovery needs. On February 18, he and the rest of the Louisiana Congressional Delegation wrote President Biden to request a federal emergency declaration. That declaration was approved the same day.
“I appreciate U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy taking time to visit Northeast Louisiana to see for himself some of the areas of our community that were impacted by the recent storm,” said West Monroe Mayor Staci Mitchell. “Senator Cassidy’s visit also allowed him the opportunity to learn more about our community’s needs and potential future projects. We always appreciate the opportunity to have a face-to-face visit with members of our federal delegation.”
Additionally, Cassidy toured the Foster Farms poultry plant where he learned more about their operations and economic impact in Union Parish and throughout Northeast Louisiana. The plant is the leading producer of fresh chicken in Louisiana and produces prepared food products for consumer sale.
