Cassidy Visits Amazon Facility in Carencro

1

LAFAYETTE – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) toured Amazon’s very first fulfillment center in Louisiana, located in Carencro. The facility is more than 1.4M square feet and covers more than 100 acres north of Guidry Road. Here, more than 1,000 employees pick, pack, and ship large items such as patio furniture, sports equipment, and rugs.

“The Amazon Fulfillment Center is a 1,000,000 square feet facility, organized with impressive logistics,” said Dr. Cassidy. “The best information was the wage, healthcare and educational benefits given to Amazon employees.”

Cassidy has made multiple stops in Acadiana over the past year. In April, he announced a grant at Ville Platte High School of $29.9 million to connect Evangeline Parish residents to broadband Internet. He announced a grant in August of $1 million dollars at LSU-Eunice for them to upgrade their laboratory equipment. He also met with mayors in the region on the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act in June.

Cassidy was thanked by Mr. Brian Huseman, Amazon’s Vice President of Public Policy, for his visit.

“It was a pleasure to host Senator Cassidy at our first fulfillment center in Louisiana to see first-hand how we create good jobs, foster economic impact, and use innovation to deliver for customers across the state,” said Mr. Huseman. “We’re proud to continue investing in this community where thousands of our employees and their families live and work.
