LAKE CHARLES – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today visited leaders in Cameron, about the frustrations of rebuilding from Hurricanes Laura and Delta.
“Cameron Parish has frontline insight as to how to make recovery go faster and more effectively,” said Dr. Cassidy. “For example, getting people back in homes more quickly. Lessons learned in Cameron can benefit Americans affected by future disasters no matter where they live. Americans have helped Cameron, Cameron helps the rest of America.”
Cassidy also met with Cameron Parish President Scott Trahan and Police Jury Administrator Katie Armentor. They discussed the progress made by Cameron Parish in their recovery.
“We are grateful to Senator Cassidy for taking the time to visit Cameron Parish and witness firsthand the progress we have made in the last few months,” said President Trahan. “Our local leadership appreciated the opportunity to discuss the recovery hurdles our local government, schools, and health care facilities face after being impacted by Hurricanes Laura and Delta.”
On Tuesday, Cassidy delivered a speech on the Senate floor on the impact of Hurricanes Laura and Delta, as well as recent flooding in Lake Charles, Baton Rouge and other areas in South Louisiana. During the speech, Cassidy called on his colleagues and the President to pass a disaster supplemental to address these needs. He also spoke with President Biden on this matter during his visit to the Pelican State.
