Cassidy, Vitter and Boustany Comment on Groundbreaking of Permanent Lake Charles VA Clinic

WASHINGTON— US Senator Bill Cassidy, US Senator David Vitter and US Representative Charles Boustany, Jr. released the following statements on the groundbreaking of a new, permanent Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC) in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Members of Congress have been pushing for permanent clinics in Southwest Louisiana since 2009.

“There are more than 23,000 veterans in Southwest Louisiana who have been waiting more than a decade for the Lake Charles VA clinic to be built. Today’s groundbreaking is good news, but we have to continue working together to oversee its construction. I look forward to the day the clinic opens its doors and starts seeing patients— all veterans must have access to quality health care,” said Dr. Cassidy.

“This is a momentous day. After years of hard work, veterans in Southwest Louisiana will finally have access to quality healthcare services right in their local community,” said Sen. Vitter. “While I am glad to see the long-awaited groundbreaking of the Lake Charles VA clinic, there is still work to be done. I’ll continue working to make sure Louisiana veterans in every corner of the state have adequate access to the best possible healthcare services.”

“Today – finally – construction on a permanent veterans’ Community-Based Outpatient Clinic in Lake Charles is underway. As a physician, I have made it my personal mission in Congress to improve access to high-quality care for our veterans, and this groundbreaking takes us one step closer to that goal. While this is an important step, this facility’s construction is only the first step. We must continue to work together to ensure this facility is staffed with highly-qualified health professionals providing world-class care for our veterans in Southwest Louisiana,” said Rep. Boustany.
