WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today voted against the confirmation of Representative Deb Haaland of New Mexico to be Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI).
“The Biden administration’s energy policies are not guided by science, but a political agenda. I will not support a nominee for an Interior Department that is preparing to punish American energy workers and worsen our environment by sending production overseas,” said Dr. Cassidy.
At her nomination hearing, Cassidy questioned Haaland on the Keystone XL pipeline and the need to fund coastal restoration projects. He referenced a letter from Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards sent to President Biden that states Louisiana’s ability to fund coastal resiliency and restoration projects “footprint relies heavily on sustainable and predictable oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico.”
Cassidy voted against advancing Haaland’s nomination in the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on March 4, 2021.
He also met with Representative Haaland on January 26, 2021.
