WASHINGTON—Today, President Trump is expected to sign an executive order instructing Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke to review moratoriums and future lease plans for offshore drilling. US Senator Bill Cassidy, MD (R-LA) will travel to the White House to attend the signing.
“Placing moratoriums and restrictions on American energy production hurts our workers and energy security,” said Dr. Cassidy. “President Trump’s executive order fulfills his promise to bring good-paying jobs to Louisiana and American families, and make America energy dominant.”
On Wednesday, Cassidy and US Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) introduced the Outer Continental Shelf Energy Access Now (OCEAN) Act in the US Senate. The OCEAN Act revises the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act and the Antiquities Act so they may no longer be used by presidents to block offshore energy production. Representative Dave Brat (R-VA) has introduced companion legislation in the US House of Representatives.

In March, Cassidy, along with US Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and John Kennedy (R-LA) introduced the Unleashing American Energy Act of 2017. That legislation would empower the Secretary of the Interior to add additional lease sales to an existing 5-year leasing plan, allowing for more American energy investments that would pay dividends for decades to come.
