WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today announced that Southwest Louisiana will receive an additional $46,000,000 for coastal hurricane protection from his bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), legislation co-authored by Cassidy. Specifically, the funding will elevate approximately 200 structures in the Calcasieu, Cameron, and Vermillion Parishes to the 100-year flood plain.

“Great news, $46 million coming to Cameron, Calcasieu, and Vermillion Parishes to elevate structures so they will not flood, so that [families] don’t have to leave, so businesses are still there, so communities can stay intact. It is coming from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill. I like that because that was the reason I got involved—to make sure that we in Louisiana got enough to meet our needs. And the very best news is there is more to come,” said Dr. Cassidy.

Earlier this year, Cassidy announced $125,000,000 for Southwest Coastal Louisiana Hurricane Protection. Louisiana has now received over $700 million in funding for coastal, waterway, and flood protection projects from the IIJA. Louisiana can expect additional funding from Cassidy’s legislation over the next four years.
