Cassidy Announces $384,000 from Infrastructure Law to Improve Rural Transportation for Disabled, Elderly Louisianans

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) announced the Rapides Area Planning Commission will receive $384,000.00 from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to improve mobility issues in the region thanks to his Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). The funding will build a new transit vehicle inspection and training center which will be used by six rural transit providers and 13 providers of transportation for older adults and people with disabilities, enhancing the coordinated delivery of service across a multi-parish service area.

“Elderly and disabled Louisianans in rural areas should be able to rely on our transportation system to bring them to get around,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This funding from the infrastructure law helps Rapides Parish catch up to 2024 and build a future for 2050.”
