Cassidy Announces $4.2 Million in COVID-19 Relief for Louisiana Seafood Industry

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will grant the Louisiana Agricultural Finance Authority $4,229,669 to assist Louisiana seafood processing facilities as a part of the Seafood Processors Pandemic Response and Safety Block Grant Program (SPRS), which provides COVID-19 relief funding for seafood processors and processing facilities.

“Louisiana is the second largest seafood producer in the country,” said Dr. Cassidy. “This funding helps our seafood industry get back on its feet and supports the families that depend on these jobs.”

Nationally, Louisiana is receiving the second-largest SPRS grant, behind only Alaska. This funding comes from the provisions Cassidy secured as part of the bipartisan COVID Stimulus package passed last year, and will reimburse the industry for some of the costs incurred during the pandemic.
