Cassidy Announces $5.3 Million for New Orleans Passenger Ferry Repairs

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today announced the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is receiving $5.3 million from the Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration to revamp its passenger ferry terminal and marine maintenance facility.

“This federal funding will enhance the passenger ferry experience for Louisiana residents.  Reliable ferry service is vital for some workers and we should support this unique travel service whenever possible,” said Dr. Cassidy.

Both facilities are located at Lower Algiers, and the funds will be used to maintain passenger safety and ensure repairs are up-to-date.

The award is part of the Passenger Ferry Grant Program, which provides competitive funding for projects that support passenger ferry systems in urbanized areas.
