Cassidy, Colleagues Introduce Bipartisan Resolution to Recognize National Estuaries Week

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) and a bipartisan group of senators introduce a resolution to make the week of September 17 through September 24, 2022, known as “National Estuaries Week’’.

“Louisiana’s coastline is vital to protect the communities, businesses and wildlife that help our state flourish,” said Dr. Cassidy. “Protecting our estuaries is essential to preserve Louisiana’s way of life.”

In addition to Cassidy, the resolution is sponsored by Senators Whitehouse (D-RI), Baldwin (D-WI), Booker (D-NJ), Cantwell (D-WA), Cardin (D-MD), Carper (D-DE), Collins (R-ME), Coons (D-DE), Feinstein (D-CA), Hassan (D-NH), Hirono (D-HI), Kaine (D-VT), King (I-ME), Markey (D-MA), Merkley (D-OR), Murphy (D-CT), Portman (R-OH), Reed (D-RI), Rubio (R-FL), Shaheen (D-NH), Van Hollen (D-MD), and Warner (D-VA).

Background

National Estuaries Day started in 1988 and was later expanded to a week to encourage people to become involved in their protection. Last year, Restore America’s Estuaries tracked 105 events with over 30,000 volunteers over the week.
