Cassidy Comments on Louisiana’s Medicaid Expansion

WASHINGTON— U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. released the following statement on Louisiana’s Medicaid expansion:

“I thank the president for wanting to give the state of Louisiana more money, but as a physician who has cared for the uninsured, I know it’s far better to give Americans the self-respect of not being stuck in a broken government program, and instead the opportunity that arises when they can make their own health care decisions. It shouldn’t be a question of whether the patient has Medicaid or not, it should be a question of whether the patient can choose the physician they wish to see and be covered. Unfortunately, the expansion of Medicaid doesn’t give that opportunity. I’m for solutions that give the patient the power, not government bureaucrats.”
