Cassidy Discusses Infrastructure Improvements with Iberia Rotary Club

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) spoke to the Iberia Rotary Club, where he discussed issues of importance to Iberia Parish residents.

“Rotarians in Iberia Parish serve others,” said Dr. Cassidy. “They want the best for their parish, state, and our country. We discussed elections, immigration, infrastructure investment, affordable flood insurance, and a FEMA that works for their community.”

One of the topics Cassidy raised was the results of his Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) for Iberia Parish. As of July 2023, Iberia Parish has received over $52 million from the IIJA, mostly for road and highway improvements. This includes over $25 million to improve U.S. Highway 90 from LA Highway 14 (Center Street) to LA Highway 83 (Weeks Island Road.) Additionally, over $587,000 has been granted to the Acadiana Regional Airport between Fiscal Years 2022 and 2023.

Cassidy also announced in April that Iberia Parish would receive over $1.6 million in revenue from the U.S. Department of the Interior from energy revenue sharing, on top of the $125 million receive by the state of Louisiana. Cassidy remains a supporter of expanding energy revenue sharing, including through his Reinvesting in Shoreline Economies and Ecosystems (RISEE) Act.

During his remarks, Cassidy also discussed the need to make flood insurance affordable, and his efforts to save Social Security for all Americans. He was greeted by Ms. Shelly Broussard, President of the Iberia Rotary Club.

“We were pleased to have Senator Cassidy at our weekly luncheon,” said Ms. Broussard. “We appreciate the work he’s doing in Iberia Parish to prevent flooding, improve wastewater infrastructure, and help create new energy jobs in our community. His leadership is invaluable for our area.”
