Cassidy, Durbin, Rubio, Welch, Scott, Shaheen Statement on Venezuela’s Presidential Election Results

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Peter Welch (D-VT), Rick Scott (R-FL), and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) released the following statement regarding the results of Sunday’s presidential election in Venezuela:

“The meticulously compiled and transparent release of more than 80 percent of all Venezuelan election results by credible election monitors confirms pre-election and exit polling, as well as the obvious—Edmundo González won Sunday’s election by a fair and commanding margin. The fact that the Maduro regime cowardly refused to immediately release any such data is telling of the outrageous and blatant attempt to steal yet another Venezuelan election and a better future for the Venezuelan people. This cannot stand.”

“The region’s democracies must stand firm and insist on respect for the Venezuelan voter and a democratic transfer of power as overwhelmingly indicated by the election results.”

Earlier this week, Cassidy delivered a speech on the U.S. Senate floor about yet another election stolen by the Nicolas Maduro regime in Venezuela. He also joined 14 colleagues from the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives in releasing a joint statement after the criminal and illegitimate Maduro narco-regime claimed victory in this sham presidential election.
