Cassidy, Ernst, Senate Republicans Push to End Biden DoD’s War on the Unborn

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Joni Ernst (R-IA), and 34 Senate Republicans introduced legislation to stop the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD) policy to promote and accommodate taxpayer-funded abortion accommodations. Last year, the Biden DoD announced it would pay for servicemembers’ and their dependents’ travel expenses to receive an abortion.

“The government should not be paying for abortions, let alone promoting them,” said Dr. Cassidy. “Congress has an obligation to prevent the Defense Department’s plans from coming into effect to protect both the life of the child and the mothers who would suffer.”

“The Pentagon should not be mobilized against the unborn. The Department of Defense exists to defend life, not destroy it,” said Senator Ernst. “Biden DoD’s policy is not just unlawful, it’s immoral. Congress has been clear; the Hyde Amendment protects taxpayers from being forced to fund abortions. I will continue to ensure the unborn and your tax dollars are protected.”

Cassidy and Ernst are joined on the legislation by U.S. Senators Roger Wicker (R-MS), John Barrasso (R-WY), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), John Boozman (R-AR), Mike Braun (R-IN), Katie Britt (R-AL), Ted Budd (R-NC), John Cornyn (R-TX), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Steve Daines (R-MT), Deb Fischer (R-NE), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Josh Hawley (R-MO), John Hoeven (R-ND), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), John Kennedy (R-LA), James Lankford (R-OK), Mike Lee (R-UT), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), Pete Ricketts (R-NE), Jim Risch (R-ID), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Rick Scott (R-FL), Tim Scott (R-SC), John Thune (R-SD), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), and J.D. Vance (R-OH).
