Cassidy, Kennedy Applaud Confirmation of Dan Brouillette as DOE Secretary

WASHINGTON  U.S. Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) and chairman of the Senate Energy Subcommittee, and John Kennedy (R-LA) joined the Senate in confirming Louisiana native Dan Brouillette as the secretary for the Department of Energy (DOE). His confirmation passed 70-15 in a vote this evening.

“Dan Brouillette understands that sound energy policy benefits energy workers, creates jobs and furthers America’s goal of energy dominance. He will serve our country well as secretary. Louisiana is fortunate to have one of ours in this position,” said Dr. Cassidy.

“Dan is a rock star. He’s served with distinction as the deputy secretary of energy, and I can’t think of anyone more deserving to lead the Department of Energy,” said Sen. Kennedy. “He exercises power intelligently, not emotionally, and he will be extraordinary in this new role.”

Brouillette served as outgoing Secretary Rick Perry’s No. 2 person in the DOE.

Brouillette was born in Assumption Parish and has deep ties to Louisiana and its energy sector. He was chief of staff to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce under former U.S. Rep. Billy Tauzin (R-LA) and served as a member of Louisiana’s State Mineral and Energy Board.
