WASHINGTON— U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss Iran’s nuclear ambitions and the P5+1 negotiations to lift sanctions on Iran in exchange for changes to Iran’s nuclear program.  Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed his concerns that the negotiations will lead to Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon.

“In our meeting, I expressed to Prime Minister Netanyahu my strong support for the nation of Israel.  We share a common goal for peace in the region and a desire to stop Iran from continuing to develop its nuclear program.  The U.S. Senate must exercise its power to ensure that any negotiations with Iran will protect the United States and our allies.”

On May 7, 2015, Dr. Cassidy supported the amended Senate version of H.R. 1191, the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, to provide congressional review and oversight of agreements relating to Iran’s nuclear program.
