Cassidy Participates in Wreaths Across America Event in Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE – On Saturday in Baton Rouge, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) helped lay wreaths on the tombstones of fallen soldiers at the Baton Rouge National Cemetery, as part of the Wreaths Across America event sponsored by the Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana (Chapter 1).

“We honored the past, present and future of our Armed Forces,” said Dr. Cassidy. “We honored the past by laying wreaths on the tombstones of those who served. We honored the present, with both active duty and retired soldiers and Blue and Gold Star Mothers present. And we recognize the future, the children who laid wreaths on the tombstones, who will be inspired to serve by their example.”

Wreaths Across America is a national non-profit organization, which supports local events throughout the country. Every year in December, wreaths are laid on the graves of soldiers in military cemeteries, to honor and remember their sacrifice. At the event in Baton Rouge, soldiers, sailors and Marines from all service branches were honored, as well as Gold Star Mothers.

According to Ms. Denise Singleton, President of Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana (Chapter 1), this year’s Wreaths Across America event in Baton Rouge was one of its best ever.

“Blue Star Mothers of Louisiana (Chapter 1) is truly humbled by the outpouring of support through sponsors, volunteers and event participants,” said Ms. Singleton. “We were able to place 4,200 wreaths this year, falling short by a little over 800 wreaths [of filling the whole cemetery]. Our best effort yet. We will continue to serve and succeed.”
