Cassidy: Senate Confirms Louisiana Native Menezes as Deputy Secretary of Energy

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) and chairman of the Senate Energy Subcommittee, today voted to support the confirmation of Louisiana native Mark Wesley Menezes as the next Deputy Secretary of Energy. The Senate confirmed Menezes in a 78-14 vote Tuesday.

“Mark Menezes’ experience in Congress, the private sector and as Undersecretary of Energy make him an ideal choice for this position. His skill set is invaluable as the United States’ energy sector recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic. I look forward to working with him to save energy jobs and rebuild this industry,” said Dr. Cassidy.

Menezes is a native of Luling in St. Charles Parish. He received his undergraduate degree and law degree from Louisiana State University.

Menezes currently serves as undersecretary of Energy. Previously while in the private sector, he held senior positions at energy companies and a partnership at a law firm. He has also served as chief counsel for the House Committee on Energy and Commerce for three years.
