WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), a member of the Senate Education Committee, today announced the Senate passage of the FUTURE Act, legislation to permanently authorize funding for America’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSI). Previously, authorization for funding of HBCUs and MSIs expired on Sept. 30, creating uncertainty for these institutions and the students they serve. The legislation now awaits consideration by the House of Representatives.
“Nothing is more powerful to help achieve the American dream than education. We hope the House of Representatives will pass this legislation quickly to give certainty to these important institutions and their students,” said Dr. Cassidy
