BATON ROUGE – On Sunday morning, U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) spoke at the inauguration ceremony for St. Charles Parish President Matthew Jewell and the entire St. Charles Parish Council. He spoke about what they can do together to help St. Charles Parish.
“Working in partnership with Parish President Matthew Jewell, we hope to make St. Charles Parish’s future even brighter than its past,” said Dr. Cassidy.
As an example of his work for the parish, Cassidy announced over $12 million for St. Charles Parish in Hurricane Ida relief in the past three months. That follows his successful effort to include $841.5 million for overall Hurricane Ida relief in a Continuing Resolution in September of 2022, and over $1.272 billion that March. He also secured funds from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to raise flood-prone structures in the parish.
President Jewell greeted Cassidy before the ceremony began.
“I appreciate Senator Cassidy’s participation in the 2024 inauguration,” said President Jewell. “We look forward to continuing to work with him on critical issues affecting St. Charles Parish and the State.”
Later that afternoon, Cassidy participated in the inauguration ceremony for incoming Livingston Parish President Randy Delatte, who was formerly a member of the Parish Council. The new Livingston Parish Council was also sworn in at the ceremony. Cassidy spoke about how they can work together to support the parish.
“Randy is going to do a great job as Parish President,” said Dr. Cassidy. “My pledge to him and the Parish Council is to work with them to make Livingston one of the best places to live in America.”
The IIJA will also help raise flood-prone structures in Livingston Parish. Additionally, Cassidy was able to secure millions to renovate the Livingston Parish Courthouse and improve drinking water in the Town of Livingston, in separate appropriations.
President Delatte welcomed Cassidy to Livingston Parish.
“We are honored to have my longtime friend Senator Cassidy join us for the inauguration,” said President Delatte. “As we begin the process to alleviate our traffic problems and fix drainage in Livingston Parish, we know that Senator Cassidy will be an able partner in these endeavors. Livingston is grateful for his commitment to secure funding for our infrastructure needs, and his commitment to work for critical legislation that will benefit our parish.”
