WASHINGTON – The U.S. Senate unanimously passed a bipartisan resolution led by Senators Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), Chuck Grassley (R-IA), and Dick Durbin (D-IL) commemorating National Police Week 2021. The resolution honors the selfless dedication and sacrifice made by law enforcement officers across the country to protect and serve American communities.
“It’s an honor to recognize National Police Week to remember and support public servants who dedicate their lives to keeping our communities safe. We should all thank God for their willingness to put themselves between us and danger. We cannot thank them enough,” said Dr. Cassidy.
“Being a police officer isn’t just a job. It’s a calling. I commend these public servants for answering that call. Over the last year, many officers have faced exceptional, demoralizing attacks. Departments have struggled to retain and recruit new officers. Our country will be better served by more qualified individuals in law enforcement, not fewer. Through this bipartisan resolution and the Senate’s ongoing legislative work, we will continue to support the men and women in law enforcement,” said Senator Grassley.
This year’s resolution is cosponsored by a bipartisan group of 78 senators.
Earlier this week, Cassidy honored fallen Louisiana law enforcement heroes on the Senate floor. During his speech, he recognized the 15 members of Louisiana law enforcement that lost their lives in the line of duty in 2020. He also emphasized his support and remembrance to all public servants dedicated to keeping communities safe.
