Cassidy, U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao to Visit Port of New Orleans, Announce $45 Million Grant for Belle Chasse Bridge and Tunnel Project

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), announced today that U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao will visit Louisiana on Wednesday, August 8.

“I look forward to welcoming Secretary Chao to New Orleans,” said Dr. Cassidy. “We’ll no doubt have a robust discussion with local leaders about the enhancements we can make at our ports, which are already some of the busiest in the country. And we’ll highlight the federal funding for the Belle Chasse Tunnel and Replacement Project, which will improve access to Plaquemines Parish, Belle Chasse air station, and businesses along Highway 23.”

On Wednesday, August 8, Senator Cassidy and Secretary Chao will be joined by state and local officials, port commissioners, and trade association representatives at the Port of New Orleans to assess and discuss the state’s infrastructure needs and potential to be a global leader in multimodal commerce.

Later in the day, Senator Cassidy and Secretary Chao will also announce a $45 million Infrastructure For Rebuilding America (INFRA) grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the Belle Chasse Bridge & Tunnel Project.

After the announcement, Senator Cassidy and Secretary Chao will host a media availability. Members of the media wishing to attend must RSVP to Ty_Bofferding@cassidy.senate.gov.
