Cassidy Votes Against Advancing Haaland’s Nomination in Committee

WASHINGTON —U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today, in the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, voted against advancing the nomination of Representative Deb Haaland to be Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI).

“This vote is to represent those families in Louisiana being ignored by this president, whose jobs are being sacrificed for a political agenda,” said Dr. Cassidy. “The Biden administration’s energy policies are not guided by science or logic. They will push production overseas to countries with worse environmental standards and ultimately increase global emissions.”

Cassidy questioned Haaland on the Keystone XL pipeline and the need to fund coastal restoration projects last week. He referenced a letter from Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards sent to President Biden that states Louisiana’s ability to fund coastal resiliency and restoration projects “footprint relies heavily on sustainable and predictable oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico.” He also met with Representative Haaland on January 26, 2021.
