WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, joined Greta Van Susteren on Newsmax this week calling on China to pay a foreign pollution fee for the Chinese Communist Party’s lack of environmental regulations and use of slave labor. “We need to have a set of policies which recognize that one way China is able to better compete is they totally ignore environmental regulations… they don’t enforce those regulations, making it cheaper to produce goods there. I’m advocating policies that would make them pay a penalty. We call it the foreign pollution fee,” said Dr. Cassidy. Background Last January, Cassidy published an op-ed in Newsweek spotlighting the consequences of treating China as a good-faith partner in the global economy. He called on the United States and our allies to hold China for its detrimental conduct and to oppose its slave-based business model. Learn more here. ### |
